Discover History through Docentry
At Point Betsie you will open the doors of historical interpretation for area visitors and residents who want to learn more about the lighthouse. Your volunteer service as a guide or a "docent" can enrich the lives of others by sharing history and assistance at the Point Betsie Lighthouse Museum, Boathouse Exhibit Room, and Boathouse Gift Shop.
The Role of a Docent
Docents have many varied roles and different levels of responsibility. Sometimes docents are willing to accept specialized roles based on their skill set or their desire and ability to work with people. Point Betsie docents share history, welcome visitors, offer assistance about historical books and merchandise at the gift shop, or provide helpful information about the area.
Shifts & Duties
Shifts for docents are typically 2-3 hours and weekly frequency depends on your availability, schedule, and physical condition. Docents may be asked to stand for long periods or to perform light walking tours on the grounds. Point Betsie is a great place to meet all kinds of people, and to enjoy a spectacular view while helping your community. Point Betsie could not stay open without the help of docents. With more docents at the Lighthouse, Boathouse and Gift Shop we can all learn more about Point Betsie and together we can share this knowledge with our guests and with area residents.
If you are interested in becoming a docent, follow these easy steps: 1) download the volunteer application. 2) print and complete the application 3) return your application by visiting Point Betsie or by emailing: firstname.lastname@example.org
